| Nov. 16th, 2006 02:20 pm Went to be last night thinking my other mare must be going to foal soon, but she was still not showing any indications of doing so. I get up this morning and she is thinner. Behind her were four tiny legs. Further investigation found a tiny little colt foal - small enough to just walk under her if he so felt. Her first foal, and she'd managed the whole deal out in the paddock, with other mares around. The foal is just 16 inches tall. 3 comments - Leave a comment | |

| Nov. 15th, 2006 08:40 am It's freezing! It's two weeks to summer, and it's been a drought. Except for the last few days where it's been raining pretty much the whole time, to varying degrees. So during a break in the rain I go to get the mail, and what do I find? It's been SNOWING! It NEVER snows down here - 200M above sea level - not even in winter. Well, I guess "never" no longer applies.
One week ago, my latest foaling disaster occurred. Incorrect presentation - the foal was stuck with just its head and one leg out. Despite this and nearly being choked, the tough little bugger was still breating. It took us at least an hour if not two just to find a vet (2am) who upon arriving indicated he would have to push the foal back into the mare, and doing so would kill it as it would not be able to breath under the preasure of the womb.
Well, to cut a long story short, the mare survived, though injured, and that tough little fighter of a foal decided he was going to live no matter what the vet declaired, and kept on breathing anyway.
I'm waiting on a vet bill that will be more than I could sell him for, but hey, my mare is still alive, and so is the foal. Leave a comment

| Sep. 11th, 2006 08:18 pm Another hole in the garden If there is one thing I HATE is is burying a horse. I don't mind the digging. I don't mind the inconvenience. It's saying good-buy that rips my guts out.
He was born only two days ago - Friday at 7pm. We got on okay. So well in fact that on Saturday he was following me around with considerable enthusiasm. He was so sweet and friendly. He was a tiny 17" tall, and black.
He was fine when I went to bed last night. This morning he could barely stand. I did what I could for him, but all to no avail. He died around 3 pm. His poor mother lost her second foal in a row. My darling stallion Florian, his father, lost his first son. At least he met him just after he was born, and seem to understand what was going on.
Bittersweet now lies beside his older brother.
Digging holes is okay. Carefully laying what was a lovable little creature in the bottom, then covering him with soil is about as low as my life gets. 1 comment - Leave a comment

| Sep. 4th, 2006 07:04 pm Steve Irwin This morning due to the arrival of a doll with a crocodile as an accessory at my mother's, conversation turned to Steve Irwin, the croc hunter and his antics, even to the point he was parodied in a cartoon just last week. I told my mother that he was going to get himself killed.
Little did I expect that just a few hours later, I was in the weird position of being able to say "told you so". I was stunned when I first heard the news. I really hadn't expected him to be quite so quick about it. 3 comments - Leave a comment

| Aug. 28th, 2006 06:56 pm About a month back some loser fron China signed up on ebay, got his "how to scam for beginners" pack and set to work - two model steam trains for fairly hefty prices. Too bad the idiot didn't read the line about not stealing pictures from CURRENT auctions.
So I creat an account "TheBiggestSucker" and hit the buy it now, as well as reporting him as a scammer. Needless to say, ebay deleted the auctions, even though they were technically over.
Believe it or not this clueless scammer is still hoping I will pay up - I got another reminder email today. Duh! If the user name wasn't clue enough (so okay, being chinese he may miss the point), surely a month with NOT A SINGLE EMAIL from me should give him a clue? Current Mood: amused

| Apr. 12th, 2006 03:03 pm Bah! Mouse finally had her foal in March, a little chestnut filly, and would you believe she had the same problems as her older brother (mentioned previously). Born at 6pm, at the vets by 7.15 to be put down. Bah. At least Little Missy is healthy. 3 comments - Leave a comment | |

| Dec. 16th, 2005 08:56 pm silly horse quiz I saw Sparky tried this quiz out, so I gave it a go. I guess I'm not as surprised at the outcome as she was!
What breed of horse are you? Find out! 2 comments - Leave a comment

| Dec. 1st, 2005 11:26 pm An update? Well, sort of. I am so not into online blogs. For the very few that care - this year I've had three miniature pony foals. The first, a filly is lovely, intelligent, and very friendly. The second, a colt was a total disaster. He managed to tear himself open and had to be destroyed. His life was a whole massive 10 hours long. I still balled my eyes out. The third, another filly, is as sweet as the first and just so huggable.
